Do you want to learn more about our current health system, the problems with it, and how to fix them? Do you want to learn more about the recent health reform? Do you want to learn more about other systems of health care, and how they offer universal coverage for less money? Do you want to learn how to advocate for a just and guaranteed health care system for all? Then come join over 500 health professional students from all over California for the 2011 Lobby Day for SB810, the California Universal Health Care Act on Sunday, January 9th and Monday, January 10th, 2011!This event is put on specifically for students by the California Health Professional Student Alliance (CaHPSA). CaHPSA is a statewide network of health professional students that aims to cultivate knowledge and leadership skills to effect change in the health care system. What does this event entail?
January 9th, 2011 is Training Day. This is a day of learning with health professional student leaders, physicians, public officials and health policy experts. Our goal will be learning about the provision of an effective and just health delivery system.
January 10th, 2011 is Lobby Day, which marks the day of ACTION! The day begins with a march through Sacramento, a rally on the Capital steps, and culminates with an afternoon of meetings with elected officials with your well-prepared legislative team! What will I learn about? This exciting and dynamic two-day event will educate you on Single Payer Healthcare and the California Universal Healthcare Act, CA Senate Bill 810 (SB 810). Hear and discuss what SB 810 will provide for future patients and future health care providers, and how exactly it will improve the health and finances of all Californians.
Attendees will also be educated about the recent healthcare reform, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). Although PPACA does some good things, we need to realize that it is not doing enough. Even after all is said and done with the current reform, we will still have around 23 million Americans who are without insurance, and millions more who will be underinsured.Attendees will also be trained on how to speak to elected officials on a legislative visit, practice with their legislative team, and then get a chance to speak to state senate and assembly members. This is invaluable learning experience for any working professional! The all-inclusive cost of the ticket is $23 if you live in the area and do not plan on using a bus or hotel. The all-inclusive cost for a ticket with hotel AND/OR bus is $45. But hurry, prices go up on December 1st!Sign-up and take advantage of this AWESOME deal here: http://2011lobbyday.eventbrite.com/Watch the Lobby Day 2009 video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRwNNtbNb1s&feature=player_embedded
