Massachusetts Reform Hasn't Stopped Medical Bankruptcies The findings have national implications because the Obama administration's health law is largely patterned after the Massachusetts plan, including its individual mandate. One of the administration's arguments in support of the new federal law was that it would significantly reduce medical bankruptcies nationwide. The findings in Massachusetts cast doubt on that claim. In Oregon: Single payer still their goal Oregon state Rep. Michael Dembrow is the chief sponsor of House Bill 3510, the Affordable Health Care for All Oregon Act, which would all but eliminate private health insurance in Oregon and replace it with a taxpayer-funded system covering everyone in the state: single-payer healthcare. He spoke at a rally for single-payer healthcare in Salem on March 11.
