U R G E N T - PROTECT SINGLE PAYER WAIVER

URGENT RE SENATE HEALTHCARE REFORM BILL RE STATE'S OPTION TO IMPLEMENT SINGLE PAYER PLANS

The current Senate health care reform bill contains section 1332 that allows states to propose an alternative system for delivering affordable, quality health care insurance to state residents instead of setting up insurance exchanges with competing private health plans.  This would allow California to set up a single payer system with SB 810.

However, this section 1332 does not allow this waiver until 2017.  This is 3 years after states must set up insurance exchanges in 2014!

Senator Sanders is working to change the date to 2014.

It is clear that if this provision goes through with the current date of 2017, it will make single payer almost impossible to implement.

CALIFORNIANS, PLEASE CALL TODAY:

Henry Waxman – 310-652, 818-878-7400, 323-651-1040   (all ring in his district office)
George Miller – 510) 262-6500 (Richmond Office)

Other states need to contact their representatives accordingly AND DO IT IMMEDIATELY!!!!

URGE THEM TO SUPPORT THE CHANGE OF DATE IN SECTION 1332 FROM 2017 TO 2014.
